Lap Of Legends

LAP OF LEGENDS

Role DESIGNER Client MICHELOB ULTRA Studio The Mill Year 2024

The Mill and FCB created the first-ever real vs. virtual F1 race; Lap of Legends. I was one of the designers who worked on the teaser and graphics package for the TV special which aired on BBC America.

My type explorations aimed to evoke drama and speed, without leaning too heavily on glitch driven devices.

I was a part of designing the type lockups and animation for the six drivers’ profiles, to be played during the film. Many iterations were rendered testing how this custom font would animate, while complimenting the archival footage projections behind.

The graphics package for the broadcast included section intros, leaderboard statistics, maps, audio banners and lower thirds to name a few! We had a lot of fun exploring each of the elements individually and how they would exist as a final asset library. Branding integrity was important while communicating stats and information clearly. The film was heavy on data and tech so finding a way to integrate these informational elements seamlessly was crucial.

I was also involved in problem-solving rigging and animating the leaderboard for its 15 laps, based on real-time data. Strategic thinking and toolkitting like this is something I’m very familiar with and thrive on. Together with some stellar designers and a few helpful engineers we were able to import the race data to respond to our leaderboard rig in After Effects, and follow the drivers for the duration of the race.

Lap of Legends was recognized for its innovative technology by many including; The One Club for Creativity, D&AD, Cannes Lions and the Clio Sports Awards.
